EXPLORİNG TANZANİA’S RHYTHMS

Spending Her Formative Years As A Child İn Tanzania, While Her Parents Assisted Street Children İn The Town Of Arusha As Missionaries,

When seeking fresh inspiration for her new tracks, RedBull.com recording artist Ladi6 looked to her years spent in Tanzania, where she believes her musical story began. Follow her journey through this astounding East African country to inspire your own visit to this nature lover’s paradise…

Spending her formative years as a child in Tanzania, while her parents assisted street children in the town of Arusha as missionaries, Ladi6 underwent a musical awakening that would lead to her building a career in the musical industry.

Her love for Tanzania, its people and their rhythm and the natural, wild beauty of the country are all showcased vividly in her documentary Return to Africa below:

The abundant wildlife, varied topography and colourful Maasai warriors draw in travellers looking for a true African experience, and are the memories that Ladi6 carries with her of her time spent in Tanzania.

WAYN.com has put together this wild list of the top adventures Tanzania has to offer to help you plot your unique path through East Africa…

Climbing the magnificent Kilimanjaro

One of the continent’s greatest offerings to adventurers in Tanzania is that of its highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing proud at just under 6 000 metres above sea level, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain is a deceptively difficult climb.

Hikers spend days trekking towards its snow-capped summit as the air cools and the altitude increases rapidly around them.

Icy glaciers, loose rocks and even sand fleas make the task more daunting. The reward of reaching the top is said to be worth all the energy. An invigorating run down to acclimatise back to normality is all part of this experience lead by well-healed guides.

Walking with Wildlife

Get out of the safe confines of a game-viewing vehicle, and out into the open plains that surround you in any of the national parks on a thrilling guided safari-walking escapade.

The opportunity to get even closer to wildlife and learn more about the plants, small animals and insects that create this incredible eco-system are definitely a substantial reason for doing so. You may even come across a pride of a lion fresh off a kill.

Immerse yourself in the Masaai culture

The tall, proud Maasai warriors donning their brightly coloured blankets and stunning beadwork can be seen throughout northern Tanzania.

Stop in at one of the authentic Maasai villages to learn more about their life of subsistence farming with cattle and goats and see how high you can jump compared to the Masaai in a ritual dance.

Join the Maasai women in preparing a meal and find out more about the tribe’s cultural beliefs of not conforming to a westernised lifestyle, to enhance your depth of understanding the people of East Africa.

Paragliding over a volcano

The lush national parks and open plains of the Serengeti can be astonishing from the ground, but an aerial view of Tanzania’s landscape is even more incredible. Paragliding over Oldoinyo Lengai, the country’s massive active volcano, can be an incomprehensible experience at first.

The clear lines of previous lava flow down the sides of the mountain and the shimmer off the hardened rock give an alternative perspective to Tanzania’s natural assets that few people get to experience. Light aircraft flying in the country’s northern safari circuit will loop around the summit if the visibility is good, make sure to ask your pilot if you’re flying overhead.

Explore Zanzibar’s Stone Town

A haven of Islamic architecture and home to some of the most intricately-carved wooden doors in the entire world, Zanzibar island’s Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This global merit was earned because of the town’s cultural significance and for travellers here, this is as apparent as the light of day on touchdown.

Spend hours traversing the hidden corridors of the town, bargaining for a special trinket at a market or sipping cocktails while overlooking the patchwork of rooftops.
