1. Caudan Waterfront

Located within the Caudan Waterfront, this quirky museum showcases a number of stamps; of which include the blue penny and red penny collection from 1847. Another attraction at this museum is the original statue of Paul and Virginie that was artfully crafted by the hands of Prosper d’Epinay in 1881, as well as a number of other historical collections representing the history of Mauritius.
3. Nelson Mandela Street

In the older part of Port Louis is Nelson Mandela Street; take a leisurely walk down to this part of town to see some historical architecture, including the stunning street lights that complement the surroundings.
4. Central Marketplace

In order to experience life as the locals know it, the marketplace that sits in the centre of the unique metropolitan is the place to see and be seen. You can find a number of authentic souvenirs such as handcrafted Malagasy items, a range of herbal medicines, clothing and food. Make sure you barter with the hawkers! Bring down the price and engage in friendly chatter as you peruse the delights that the market has in store.
5. Fort Adelaide

Perching high on a hill at the foot of the Moka mountain range is the quintessentially English fort, built by the English and named after King William II’s wife. Strategically placed, this fort was once used to overlook all incoming sea vessels. Walking through the fort is amazing; the walls that surround you seem perfectly preserved, whilst the panoramic view of Port Louis from the top of the fort is simply breath-taking.
6. Domaine Les Pailles

Just a 10 minute taxi ride outside of Port Louis is the old sugar plantation that has now been transformed into the cultural playground that it is today. Be transported back in time and experience life as it would have been – take a horse and carriage tour and see the ox-driven mill, see the stunning grounds and miniature railway, visit the rum distillery and finish off the day at one of the restaurants with a glass of rum and some delectable food.
